Taxis in Arguineguín run on a meter, and no fixed fare from the airport is published. The Mogán taxi cooperative takes bookings round the clock on +34 928 15 27 42.
Taxis in Arguineguín are metered, and the meter is the official price. There is no published fixed fare between the airport and Arguineguín, and any "fixed price" you are quoted comes from a private firm rather than a tariff. For a booking, the Mogán taxi cooperative (Cooperativa Taxis Mogán) answers around the clock on +34 928 15 27 42, according to Mogán council's tourism site.
That is the short answer. Below is what we can say about the tariff, the likely cost of the usual trips, when a taxi is the right choice and when a bus or boat will do the job for a fraction of the money. Where something is simply not published, such as the exact position of each rank, we say so rather than guess.
Who runs taxis in Arguineguín
Mogán council's tourism site names one taxi service for the municipality, Cooperativa Taxis Mogán, with a 24-hour telephone line (+34 928 15 27 42), an e-mail address (info@socomtaxi.com) and a website at www.socomtaxi.com. It says the service has "several stops in the most important areas" of the municipality. It does not list them or give fares, so the street the rank is on is not published. The safe way to get one is to ring.
Do not assume an Arguineguín taxi can pick you up at the airport. Taxi drivers quoted in the press say that only taxis from Telde and Ingenio may take passengers from the airport rank. If you are arriving by air, the airport transfer guide compares all the options.
How the fare is worked out
Taxi fares on Gran Canaria are a flag-fall, a charge per kilometre and a few supplements, set by the authorities and shown on the meter. The Canary Islands government raised the interurban taxi tariffs by about 20 per cent in April 2023, the first update since 2017, and the exact per-kilometre figures are not given in the news report. A ride between towns, such as Arguineguín to Puerto de Mogán or the airport, is normally an interurban trip, but the exact rate is not published in the sources we rely on.
Gran Canaria Airport publishes its own tariff on AENA's taxi page. It does not say whether it is the urban or the interurban rate, and it gives no price to Arguineguín, so read it as a guide to the structure, not a quotation:
| Period | Flag-fall | Per kilometre |
|---|---|---|
| Day, 06:00 to 22:00 | €3.85 | €1.35 |
| Night, 22:00 to 06:00 | €4.25 | €1.55 |
| Public holidays, 06:00 to 22:00 | €4.25 | €1.55 |
| Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and 5 January, from 22:00 to midnight the next day | €6.54 | €1.55 |
AENA also lists an airport supplement of €2.10 and a waiting charge of €18.50 an hour. Ask the driver before you set off whether the meter will run and whether there is a supplement for luggage or the airport.
Rough arithmetic for the usual trips
Here is arithmetic, not a quotation. If the airport's day tariff applied unchanged, and the road distances from Arguineguín (OpenStreetMap routing, no traffic) are about right, the metered cost would land roughly in these ranges. A real fare can be higher because of supplements, traffic and the actual route.
| Trip from Arguineguín | Road distance | Meter arithmetic, day tariff |
|---|---|---|
| Puerto Rico | about 7 km | roughly €14 |
| Faro de Maspalomas | about 13 km | roughly €21 |
| Puerto de Mogán | about 16 km | roughly €26 |
| Gran Canaria Airport | about 42 km | roughly €61, plus the €2.10 airport supplement |
Use the airport figure with care. A 2016 guide put the airport run at about €50, which is almost certainly out of date, and private transfer firms advertise fixed prices that are set by the firm. There is no official 2026 interurban tariff for the Arguineguín route, so ask for an estimate on the phone and confirm that the meter will be used.
Cap on fares to Las Palmas
On 21 August 2026 the Canary Islands government proposed capping taxi fares between Las Palmas and the airport at €40 by day and €45 at night and on public holidays. At that date it was a proposal, not approved, the taxi sector was reluctant, and its status since then is unknown. It does not apply to Arguineguín, but it is a reminder that the rules on the airport rank are being argued about, so look for a posted price or ask before you get in.
Booking and paying
- By phone. Ring the cooperative on +34 928 15 27 42. Give the exact pick-up point, the number of passengers and bags, and the time. For an early airport run, book the day before.
- At the rank or on the street. Fine for short hops in the middle of the day; less reliable in the evening or on a quiet morning.
- Payment. Whether a particular driver takes cards varies. Ask before the trip, and carry enough cash for the likely fare.
- Receipt. Ask for it if you are claiming the fare on insurance, for example after a medical visit.
- Emergencies. A taxi is not an ambulance. In an emergency call 112.
When a taxi makes sense
A taxi is worth the money late in the evening when the buses have stopped, with heavy luggage, with small children and a pushchair, or when several people share the cost. Shared between four, a short metered hop costs each person very little. For one person on a budget it is rarely sensible.
On Tuesdays the town centre is busy with the weekly market, which runs from 08:30 to 15:00, so allow extra time for road and pick-up delays around the harbour and ask the driver where it is best to meet.
Cheaper ways to cover the same ground
Global's buses link Arguineguín with Patalavaca, Puerto Rico, Puerto de Mogán, Maspalomas and the airport. The airport fare is €4.95, as AENA lists it, against a metered fare many times higher. For the coast to Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán there are also boats: Líneas Salmón charges €8 single to Puerto Rico and €15 to Puerto de Mogán from Arguineguín, with timetables to check (see the boat guide). The island-wide overview, including the cards and how to pay, is on the transport page.
Taxi or Salmón boat to Puerto de Mogán? The meter arithmetic above puts the 16 km road trip at around €26 for the whole car, while the boat is €15 per adult one way. For one or two people the boat is the cheaper way to go; for a group of four the taxi works out at less per head, though the boat has the better view.
Taxis, hire cars and parking
If you are weighing a taxi against a hire car for the week, the answer depends on how often you will go out. A few evening trips are cheaper by taxi than a week's car hire plus parking; daily excursions to the mountains and Puerto de Mogán are cheaper by car. Flights and arrival times are covered under flights to Gran Canaria.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a taxi from Gran Canaria airport to Arguineguín?
There is no published fixed fare; the meter applies. AENA lists a day tariff of €3.85 plus €1.35 per kilometre and an airport supplement of €2.10, but does not say whether this is the rate that governs the Arguineguín trip. Ask the driver for an estimate and confirm the meter will run.
What is the phone number for taxis in Arguineguín?
Mogán council's tourism site gives Cooperativa Taxis Mogán as +34 928 15 27 42, available 24 hours. The airport taxi phones are +34 928 154 777 and +34 928 837 543.
Are taxis in Arguineguín metered?
Yes, taxi fares in Spain are set by the authorities and shown on the meter. Interurban tariffs across the Canary Islands rose by about 20 per cent in April 2023.
Can I pay by card in a taxi?
It depends on the driver. There is no published rule for Arguineguín taxis, so ask before you set off and keep some cash for the fare.
Is there an Uber in Arguineguín?
No ride-hailing service is confirmed for the south-west coast. Use the cooperative's number or a licensed taxi at a stop.
Is the bus cheaper than a taxi from the airport?
Yes, by a wide margin. The bus (lines 90 and 91) costs €4.95 to Arguineguín according to AENA, while a metered taxi over roughly 42 km runs to several times that. The trade-off is time and carrying your bags to the stop; see the bus page.
