The quietest spots near Arguineguín are small coves such as Costa Alegre, Aquamarina and Los Frailes, and ravine-mouth beaches like Medio Almud and Tiritaña. The truly isolated ones are hard to reach and unguarded.
For a quieter day near Arguineguín, the realistic choices are the small beaches: Costa Alegre (55 m), Aquamarina (70 m), La Carrera (40 m) and, further west, Los Frailes (60 m), Medio Almud (87 m) and Tiritaña (86 m). They are easy to reach, but small beaches fill up with a handful of towels, so go early. The genuinely empty ones, such as Ámbar, Los Secos, El Perchel de Mogán and Veneguera, are a different proposition: difficult or boat-only access, no lifeguard and no services.
The details below come from Mogán council's beach pages (checked October 2026). The council gives occupancy for only some beaches, so "quiet" here means small, isolated or hard to reach, not a promise of space on a given day. Anywhere that is private, closed or not properly accessible is left out, and no route is described unless it is confirmed.
Small beaches that are easy to reach
| Beach | Length | Sand | Water (council) | Access | Services listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Costa Alegre (Arguineguín) | 55 m | Sand and gravel | Calm, breakwater | Urban | Toilets, showers, restaurants, lifeguard |
| La Carrera | 40 m | Sand, gravel, boulders | Council lists calm and moderate | Easy | None listed |
| Aquamarina | 70 m | Golden sand | Calm | Easy | Toilets, sunbed hire |
| Los Frailes | 60 m | Sand, gravel, boulders | Clear; moderate swell listed | Easy | None listed |
| Medio Almud | 87 m | Sand, gravel, boulders | Calm | Easy | None listed |
| Playa Chica (Puerto de Mogán) | 62 m | Rocks | Clear | Easy | None listed |
Because the council describes several of these with mixed wording (La Carrera and Los Frailes appear as both calm and moderate swell), treat the sea as variable and check it on the day.
In and next to Arguineguín: Costa Alegre and La Carrera
The Playa de Costa Alegre is the quietest of the beaches you can walk to from the centre: a 55 m pocket behind an artificial breakwater, with calm water and medium occupancy per the council. It is also known locally as La Lajilla, though that is not an official name. La Carrera (40 m) is on the same side of the town, in the La Charca area according to OpenStreetMap. The council lists no services, so bring water.
Coves west of Puerto Rico: Los Frailes, Medio Almud and Tiritaña
These three small beaches are in the Tauro, Cura and Taurito area, according to OpenStreetMap, and all carry a marked diving zone; they are good for clear water rather than comfort. Los Frailes has what the council calls a "very interesting" shallow rock shelf. Medio Almud sits at the mouth of a ravine, with moderate occupancy. Tiritaña, a black-sand beach between cliffs, is described as isolated with intermediate access and moderate swell. Medio Almud and Tiritaña also list nudism, so do not be surprised.
The bigger neighbours Tauro and Playa del Cura are not "quiet" in the strict sense, but no lifeguard is listed there and the sea can be livelier than at Anfi. For snorkelling in these coves, see snorkelling around Arguineguín.
The isolated beaches: what to know before you go
- Ámbar: 220 m of black sand, gravel and boulders. The council rates access as difficult and occupancy as low.
- Los Secos: 260 m of black sand and gravel, reachable only by sea.
- El Perchel de Mogán: 170 m of black sand and boulders, reachable only by sea. Not to be confused with the Perchel beach in Arguineguín.
- Veneguera: 370 m of black sand or rocks depending on the tide, reached by an unpaved road. The council lists moderate swell and a medium-grade access, plus nudism.
None of these lists a lifeguard, toilets or showers. For the sea-only beaches, the council does not name a boat service, so no way in is recommended. For Ámbar, the "difficult access" rating is reason enough to ask locally before attempting it, and no safe route is published. Veneguera is the practical one if you have a car: allow for a rough road, and take food and water.
No lifeguard at the coves. Where there is no lifeguard and no services, help is slower to arrive. Never swim alone, do not go in if the waves are breaking on the rocks, and in an emergency call 112. The island-wide guide is beach safety on the south coast.
Quieter versions of the big beaches
If you want facilities and fewer people, change when you go rather than where. Amadores is 488 m long and rated medium occupancy, so a weekday morning there feels roomy. Out of school holidays, the Arguineguín-to-Anfi stretch (see coastal walks to Patalavaca and Anfi) is also calmer in the early morning and the late afternoon. Families should look at family-friendly beaches before heading anywhere remote, and the whole group is compared in the best beaches near Arguineguín.
What to take
- Water, food and a charged phone: no kiosk is listed at the coves.
- A hat and cover-up: most small beaches list no shade, and UV is high all year (see sun, heat and UV).
- Shoes for boulders and stones.
- A bag for your rubbish.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the quietest beach near Arguineguín?
Among beaches you can walk to, Costa Alegre is the smallest and quietest. Beyond the town, the small coves around Playa del Cura and Taurito, and isolated beaches such as Ámbar, are quieter but unguarded.
Are there nudist beaches near Arguineguín?
The council lists nudism at Medio Almud, Tiritaña and Veneguera. The council shows it as an extra ("nudismo") on those pages, so you may meet naturists; check the signs on the spot.
Can you reach Los Secos or El Perchel de Mogán on foot?
No. The council says both are reachable only by sea.
Is Veneguera beach worth the drive?
If you want a big, undeveloped black-sand beach, yes. The council describes it as isolated and reached by an unpaved road, with moderate swell.
Are the quiet beaches safe?
They are riskier than lifeguarded beaches. None of the isolated ones lists a lifeguard, so swim only in calm conditions and not alone.
Do the small beaches have toilets?
Costa Alegre and Aquamarina do. La Carrera, Los Frailes, Medio Almud and Playa Chica list no toilets.
